About Luis Valsoto
Born in Mexico City in 1939, Luis Valsoto began studying architecture in 1964 but soon after abandoned his studies to pursue a career as a painter.
In 1965, Valsoto moved to Guadalajara in Jalisco.
In 1969, he won the Mexican National Painting Competition CONCANACO, a prize delivered to him by David Alfaro Siqueiros. In 1971, Valsoto moved to California in the USA where he continued his education in painting. He was awarded the annual prize at the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana in Mexico City in 1975.
Valsoto has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Mexico, including the Museo Regional de Guadalajara, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City and the Galería Arvil, Mexico City. His work forms part of important public and private collections mainly in Mexico including the Museo de las Artes of the Universidad de Guadalajara, the Museo Marco de Monterrey. |
